These NHS services can all be accessed directly, without needing to see a doctor first. 

  

Physiotherapy services

Local Physiotherapy services include:

First Contact Physiotherapy

Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy

Children and Young People's Physiotherapy

Phio, a Digital Physiotherapy service.

Community pharmacy

Pharmacists are experts in medicines and can help with minor health concerns.

If you have a minor illness, the pharmacy is the first place you should go to for advice. They can provide assistance with a range of health concerns. Have a look on the NHS inform site available here for more information.

Remember to check if you or your family member are eligible for the NHS Minor Ailments Service.

Mental health

NHS 24 mental health services are available to everyone in Scotland, of all ages. Call 111 to access this help. 

They can help you if you are feeling distressed, suicidal or in need of emotional support.

The services on offer include listening, offering advice, and guiding you to further help if required. More information is available via this link.

The NHS Borders Wellbeing service can help you with this. You can contact them directly via telephone on 01896 824502, or by emailing or completing their self referral form. Details for these are available via this link. 

Foot problems

Podiatrist offer help with a range of foot problems including ulceration, infected ingrowing toenails, painful walking and running, and foot pain. 

NHS Borders offers a self referral service for podiatry accessed here. 

You can also visit the Hay Lodge Healthboard reception desk, located opposite the GP surgery reception to pick up a self referral form. 

Eye problems

If you have a red, painful or sticky eye, or other problems with your eyes or vision you should talk to your local optometrist.

The majority of eye problems can be treated by your local community optometrist (optician). There are other eye conditions which may need to be referred to a specialist. Your optometrist can refer you if needed.

Sexual health

Sexual health services, including emergency contraception and contraceptive implants and coils are available through the Borders Sexual Health Service. 

They run a weekly service in Peebles at Hay Lodge Health Centre.

Please be aware we do not fit implants or intrauterine coils at our GP surgery.

Pregnancy care

Please contact your local midwife if you are pregnant.

They are contacted via the Hay Lodge Healthboard reception on 01721 722080.
