Xray Appointments at the Borders General Hospital
During your consultation, your clinician may recommend an x-ray to investigate your symptoms or help with a diagnosis.
The clinician will place these requests electronically but, as the patient, you have to arrange the appointment yourself.
This means phoning the X-ray department to arrange an appointment. When the clinician makes the x-ray request, you should take the following steps:
- Unless your clinican advises otherwise, please wait at least 24 hours/one full working day. This allows time for the request to be processed.
- Unless your clinician advises otherwise, you must phone to arrange the appointment within 30 days, otherwise the request expires.
Please call the x-ray department on 01896 826 418 Monday - Friday 09.00am - 4.30pm
Additional Information
When you arrive for your x-ray
Please report to the Reception desk in the Radiology Department.
When you go for your x-ray
The Radiographer will explain what will happen when you have your x-ray. You may need to remove clothes and jewellery around the area being examined. If you do, you will be shown to a private cubicle. You will be able to lock your clothes and any personal items in the cubicle.
Children should not be brought to the department for your appointment as staff will not be able to supervise them during your examination.
Diabetic Patients
Please take your medication as normal before your x-ray. You may be asked to remove your insulin pump/sensor prior to your examination.
How long will it take?
Taking the x-ray will only last a few minutes. The Radiographer may need to take more than one image. This usually takes no more than 5 to 10 minutes.
When will you get the results?
The Radiographer that performs your examination will advise you how long it should take for the results to be sent to your clinician.
